Description
This technique challenges you to focus by breaking work up into chunks of time, called pomodoros (after the Italian word for tomato). During each pomodoro, you focus until the time is up. Distractions need to be noted and set aside to deal with later.
Once time is up, stop. Don't do any more work until you sit down to start another pomodoro. If your mind is disappointed and wishes it could keep working, good! Give your restless mind a break. You'll subconciously want to focus even more next time.
But, this just scratches the surface. There are a variety of ways to keep track of completed pomodoros and how many pomodoros it takes to complete your tasks. Each person's workflow is different, and to get the most out of the technique you need to start off simply, and that's where this app helps. In the book, Francesco recommends using a mechanical timer for two reasons. You have to wind it manually; a barely noticed, yet useful cue to the mind that *now* is the time to work. And it ticks giving a subtle rhythm that can help keep focus.
This app gives you those two cues and a just little bit more. Tap in the center label to write a few quick words summarizing what you want to accomplish in this pomodoro. When glancing at the timer, you'll also catch a glance at the goal you set for these next few minutes.
